What's Up, Danger?

Uh, hello? Is this working?

[Miles gives an awkward wave at the mirror hovering in front of him. He's taking a moment to try test it, to figure it out. Using a mirror is a little different to what he is used to but it doesn't seem like his phone will necessarily be able to work in this place.

He isn't sure how exactly to tell if it is working or not, if it is 'on'? This makes him feel a little unsure, a little awkward as he wonders, hopes this is right. He's still got the black and red mask and suit on that he customized himself as Spider-Man, not yet having taken it off in introducing himself as Miles. Yet. Maybe once he figures a chance to get alone that nobody will see him take off the mask and all. Regardless, it is probably obvious from how small he is, his voice, that he is young. In his teens.]

I really hope this is working.... This is. New. I mean. Different worlds? Dimensions? I get that. I know about that. I just haven't been to one myself. That's the new part. I'm more used to the city. Not....being...well, in the middle of nowhere like this. Makes it a little harder to swing around as Spider-Man and all in a place like this. But. It's okay. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Even if this doesn't seem familiar.

[He is pretty sure this is not a case of him having been somehow pulled to Gwen or any of the other Spider's homes. Dimensions. Whatever. Miles gives a shrug. He hopes this is working. Else he is just rambling to himself.]

....also what the heck were those creatures? They really freaked me out. Whatever they were. Those guys in black with the blades or whatever. They won't be back, will they?

Welcome aboard, Spider-Man.

[From his voice and posture, Elle would guess he's in his mid-teens. This kid is probably one of the youngest people who's shown up so far. That doesn't make her feel great about The Green's selection pool.]

Yeah, a lot of people are out of their element. We got some folks who're more experienced in this environment, they can help you out if you need it.

I'm pretty sure those cloaked guys are 'Ringwraiths', like out of Lord of the Rings? As far for coming back... I don't think they're fans of the daylight, and we shouldn't be too far out from somewhere that's supposed to be safe.

I can't make any promises, but we should be able to reach safety before these guys come back.

[Elle might be playing a bit overoptimistic here, considering the limited information the group is working from, but she figures it won't hurt to mildly exaggerate their chances of getting somewhere protected before being attacked again. It's not like people are going to be any less wary or on the lookout just because she says 'we should be okay'.]

Thanks? I guess? I dunno if others being as out of their element is reassuring or concerning, but. As long as we work together, right?

[Or something like that. Miles isn't completely unused to that, in having to work with the others as he sorted out attempting to get them home and deal with Fisk. In stopping him potentially destroying the city with his attempt to bring back his family. Which, while understandable he missed them and all, given the potential consequences, Miles could not allow it.]

Ringwraiths, huh. I just hope they stay away.

[Because Miles had not liked them. The way they had made his Spider-Sense go off and had him all on edge and nervous. That had not been fun.]

[Elle seems to be the only approaching this in a remotely positive light, which you know, fair. This whole thing's been a complete shit show so far.]

We've got people more comfortable with all the outdoorsy-ness too. If you need help or supplies, just ask. If we don't already have it, someone may be able to scrounge up what you need.

[She gives him a reassuring smile.]

Working together has worked for us so far.

[Which has only been a week, but once again Elle is trying to put on a friendly, optimistic face here. Freaking him out with doom-and-gloom right away isn't going to do anyone any favors.]

Right. I didn't have as much chance for the outdoors. Or, I mean. Not in the city. Unless you count Central Park or whatever. So I will probably need that. Thanks.

[Miles is not used to this sort of environment. Obviously. So this will take some adjustment. But it is reassuring at least that others are more familiar with this sort of thing and will be able to help if he does need it. Not that he wants to have to ask, but. Good to know just in case.]

[ Oh, shit, it’s a Spider-Man. He has no idea which Spider-Man wears black-and-red, but there’s like a bunch of them. It’s not the shiny one that drank the Camp Hammond kool-aide. So that’s cool. ]

They’re going to come back, are you kidding? You know how this works. This is like medieval Central Park. You should have seen the steampunk nightmare last week.

[Miles is decidedly not the one that drank that kool-aid, no. But he is newer to this so it is understandable, aside from the obvious of different dimensions, that most here wouldn't necessarily recognize him.]

I was trying to be hopeful. Those guys really set me in a panic with my Spider-Sense and all. Do I want to ask about that steampunk thing......?

Spider-Sense?

[ He figures that it’s something like “horse sense”, or at least he wants it to be. That is less lame than just doing the X-Men thing of putting X- in front of everything. Still, Tommy’s reasonably curious. He didn’t think Spider-Man was one of the more open, public heroes. Friendly, neighborhood, but not like the oversharing in the elevator type. ]

Picture like really short Sentinels, but kinda sexy and glowing. With telepathic abilities that force you to relive bad memories, whether they’re yours or someone else’s. Like if Tesla, Kanye, and Rob Zombie made a movie.

Yeah. Like this.....tingle? This sort of sense of something coming? Something dangerous. Or if there are others like me nearby.

[He's. New at this. Explaining this. He's only done so to one other before. Ganke, his roommate back home.]

To relive bad memories? I'll pass on that, yeah.

[Finding out his uncle was the Prowler, losing him like that. Once was enough and he is probably still dealing with the aftermath and guilt of it. Without that sort of thing happening.]

Tingle?

[ This is where Tommy would like to tag in David or Billy, because they probably wouldn't need it explained and could just have a normal discussion while Tommy tried to wring enough out of the context clues to act like he'd always completely understood. But they aren't here. And he doesn't need them anyway. He's got this. ]

So, you can feel the future, and the future is tingly. I'm not sure if tingle is the word you want to go with, man.

[ And who can ever admit that bad memories can be bad enough to make you stumble mid-run? Not this guy. No way. ]

I was fine, but it hits different people harder. There were a few people that froze up and almost got dragged off in nets to... wherever. We can't really go check it out because nobody can get that far away from the group. You get teleported back.

I dunno, I haven't had to explain this to anyone, really. It's new. Trying to figure this out still, I've only been at this for a few days.

[So. He is definitely new to all of this, basically. Including the idea of the multiverse, different dimensions and all. In having actual proof of that being a thing, at least. Miles swallows at that and gives a nod.]

Yeah. Some people I guess would have worse memories than others, huh?

Too bad we're not home. You could just ask the other ones what they call the, uh, tingle.

[ Tommy's just glad that this time he isn't going to lose several months of time tucked away in a dank corner of the multiverse without noticing. ]

Dunno. Mine are great.

[ We are not talking about bad memories, New Spidey. ]

It's just like a sense. A feeling. Like a warning?

[That something is about to happen. Enough time beforehand that he can usually dodge out of the way. Mostly. Miles hasn't had to describe it, the other Spiders just got it because they dealt with it too.]

As if anyone has only good, great memories. But. It's okay. You don't have to tell me if you don't want.

Describing it doesn’t really give it a badass name like hex bolt.

[ Man, Tommy misses his own powers, because even a weird tingle warning sounds more useful than absolutely nothing. ]

Hey. You can’t just go around announcing that people have bad memories. It’s an unspoken social contract.

Hex bolt? But uh. Sure. Whatever. Not like I want to talk about the last few days back home since I started this whole Spider-Man thing.

[It was a lot. A very long and exhausting few days. Basically. He's still working through it all in what has been happening.]

They most likely will be back. We can't catch a break.

[Here's Ange, bringing the bad news, yup]

Probably. I was trying to be hopeful they'd left. I guess we'll see though. At least this time I will be more prepared for them?

[In knowing they might set off his Spider-Sense.]

If anyone among us managed to find a weakness or something we can exploit then we'll fare better next time.

[She would have loved not to get stabbed with a Morgul blade, that's for sure. To say this sucks would be a major understatement]

I don't know if they do. I was just trying to avoid them. To get away.

[He somehow lucked out in managing to avoid the creatures. Whether that holds if they come back next time or not. Miles would rather avoid confronting and fighting them if he can. Even without necessarily knowing about their blades.]

A smart move, anyway.

[Hey, no shame in running away from pursuers!]

How did you do with the more mundane dorks? The ones with the whips and the nets?

The other guys? I uh. Mostly just tried to zap them with my venom to get them to let me out of the nets.

[For those vaguely possibly familiar with other versions of Spider-Man, this might be new. Given this particular ability, and the invisibility seem exclusive to Miles.]

But even that seems....weaker? Or something. I guess I should check on that. Testing out my abilities, here.

[Zap enemies with venom...that probably is going to harm them for quite a while. Good. After how they went and attacked people around, Ange isn't feeling particularly merciful towards them, so she hopes Miles managed to mess them up somewhat.

It's possible she's severely overestimating the venom, really. Thankfully, Ange doesn't say any of this]

There could be someone among us who would let you zap them with all sorts of powers if they thought it'd help. Try asking around.

[She adds, too:]

You really are a lot like a spider. It almost feels ridiculous.

[Perhaps this guy also can grow a bunch of eyes and legs, for all she knows]

Testing it on someone? I don't want to hurt anyone though. I mean. Not unless I'm like, defending myself or something.

[Miles isn't necessarily keen on that but it does seem important to figure out preferably before finding his abilities are impacted while in the middle of a real fight. He can't help but to be hesitant on using his venom against teammates he is supposed to be working with. But maybe that might not be that he can manage to avoid that if he wants to be sure on what is going on with his abilities.]

It hasn't been overnight or easy in adjusting. I've only been at this a few days and all. So. It's pretty new. I'd hope there's not more I still haven't figured yet, anyway. Just this is enough.

Is there any other choice? If you find out during a fight you can't do something effectively, you'll die. That or get captured and dragged away, which I'm sure will also lead to your death.

[That's such an intensely negative forecast...yet it's not unlikely, is it?]

If it makes you feel better we have a few healers who'd be willing to help heal anything. Just don't go ambushing anybody, there's been enough of that already.

I mean. Yeah. I guess. I just -- if this does mean like, training, practicing against someone else, I at least want someone there just in case. At least, that whoever it is agrees to it. Something like that.

[This is. Awkward. He is still so unsure on it. On the idea of using someone to practice. Possibly hurting them in the process. Even if they might be healed up afterwards, it doesn't change that he might hurt them in the first place, in the moment.]

I wouldn't ambush anyone.

The city? Which city? Was it Paris? [Caroline pops up onto the screen, all rosy and bouncy despite the most recent events. The most recent events were awful. Caroline would prefer to ignore them.]

Welcome to the team. I'm Caroline. So, I know that there's a little bit of culture shock here, so if you need anything, you can reach out, you know?

[Even his voice, alongside his being so scrawny and short, probably gives away that he is just a kid under the mask as he gives a small wave to her.]

Caroline, got it. Heh, right. It's. Definitely something. But I gather there's like a group of us working together so. Gotta help each other out and all, right? I'll do what I can at least.

Oh my God! I've always wanted to go to New York. My friend Elena went and said it was only okay, but there were a bunch of extenuating circumstances there, so I'd say she's an unreliable narrator. Have you ever been on top of the Empire State Building?

[Caroline absolutely has a Pinterest board at home of fantasy travel destinations.]

Don't work yourself up too hard, okay? You're just a kid and you're new here, so you've basically getting thrown in the deep end.

I guess it depends on what she is used to? What she expected with visiting and what she did while in New York? I dunno, I guess I'm just used to it, myself. But uh, working my way up to the taller buildings.

[He probably would frequent the Empire State more often once he gets more confident and competent in his abilities as Spider-Man anyway. It being the tallest building meaning he would have the best vantage point of the city from there. Still, he gives a nod, rubbing at the back of his neck at that.]

That obvious? But. Yeah. Right.

Well, she was kind of dead and soulless at the time, but you know. Sometimes people have problems, and then they get through them. [Caroline waves it off. It's just vampire things, and frankly, some kid doesn't need to be drawn into drama that Caroline isn't exactly sad to have left in some other dimension, or wherever home is.

God. Her mom's probably worried sick. She hopes her friends invented a road trip to take Caroline on.]

Yeahhhh, yeah, kinda. I mean, it doesn't help that you're short. But that's okay! This is a good group to be stuck with if you're just a kid.

Riiight. Sure.

[Dead and soulless seem like pretty major problems from where Miles is standing but. He's not sure on what is possible or whatever, for her back home and all so he doesn't question it. Ending up here and dealing with this initially is enough.]

I'm still growing is all! I'm fourteen!

[So clearly won't be short for long, given teenage boys are like weeds that just grow and grow and also devour any and all food in sight.]

I believe you! But. [Caroline folds her arms.] Here's the thing - food is scarce here, so you're going to have to do a lot of self-advocating to make sure you get enough food to get your next growth spurt. Most of the people here are nice and generous, but you have to speak up, you know?

Food. Not something I've had to worry about. But. I'm sure there's at least enough to go around that none of us will starve and be left with nothing.

[Miles is maybe optimistic in generally wanting to believe the best in others, or at least. Wait till be figures his own impressions. Rather than what others would tell him. He doesn't expect to need to ask for more food though. Doesn't want to take more than he needs.]

I don't want to take more, not from anyone else.

That sounds like the kind of self-deprecating talk of someone who doesn't stick up for themselves. [Caroline, who's been getting by on donated blood, doesn't actually know what the food rations look like here, but she suspects they aren't great.]

I can and do stick up for myself. I just know it isn't just me. There's others here too.

[That and well, his parents being a nurse and a cop? He's aware of the idea of prioritizing, of ensuring others are safe. That they are tended to. That idea of putting others first and doing what you can to help out. Not that he can necessarily say that yet, as Spider-Man.]
