This One Just Became a Leadership Conversation

This is Spartan One-One-Seven broadcasting on an unknown communications array.

[ A few members of the team have seen the Master Chief around, but he hasn't made major contact before now. For most of the group, it's the first time they've seen this scarred face. And for one of them, it's far from the first. ]

I understand that this is a different world than the one I come from, and we have no way to return until we accomplish an... objective.

[ An objective that they all have only vaguely heard about from a weird hallucination. He doesn't have to say that part. They already know. ]

This being the case, I'm offering my skills.

I have significant experience leading teams on a variety of ops. I can work longterm on terrain like this. You can count on me in a fight.

But first of all, I do need to know who's in charge of this outfit.

[ Bless his entire heart. ]

I wasn't around for the most recent battle, but it sounded like a rout to me. At the very least, people need to have trained to operate in fireteams or squads before the next one. We need to know who can serve as field medics, who can scout, and who has the skills and experience to be the front line.

Frankly, I don't care if people want to spend their downtime recapitulating 6,000 years of political thought as long as they're in fighting shape when the time comes.

[ ...It really isn't his style to chip in like this, but all the chaos kind of hurts to watch as a former commander in another lifetime. ]

This whole camp situation's pretty recent. Most of us are strangers, so nobody's gonna be making battle formations anytime soon.

No argument from me though, we need the basics. Doctors and healers. Scouts who can navigate the forest. The ones who know how to live out in the woods can help the ones who can't. As for fighters, people gotta know who to count on if the camp's raided.

The rest can be figured out later. People are doin' pretty good taking stock of supplies on their own.

Humans are actually very good at pulling together in a crisis.

[She's not being racist, she just has no data on other species.]

I'm sure people will work out the logistical end with a minimum of tears, but hostiles aren't going to wait around for everyone to sort themselves out militarily. In fact, it's to their benefit if they don't.
